Our Partners
Slum Doctor Programme believes that a respectful and reciprocal relationship with our African partners is key to successful community development and social change. We work closely with our partners sharing our strengths, our joys and our sorrows.
Hope Center - Provides cervical screening, medical assistance and related expenses to patients who otherwise "fall through the cracks."
In addition to the partnership with the Hope Center, Slum Doctor Programme partners with other local organizations that focus on the social consequences of the AIDS epidemic: food security, care for orphans and vulnerable children, education and income generation.
Busoga Shining Light Association - provides support to maintain a sustainable agriculture and income generating program for 25 AIDS widows in several villages in Iganga District.
This project is:
- providing (AIDS widows) with accounting and small business management skills for farming
- providing farmers with small grants to purchase seeds, fertilizer and a maize drying crib to preserve their crops
- educating women and communities about HIV/AIDS
- generating a sustainable income for women, many of whom are taking care of 5+ children, their own and others orphaned in their community
Ombogo Girls' Academy - In partnership with Ombogo Grils' Academy Slum Doctor Programme provides vulnerable teenage girls with a high school education, room & board. Many young women in Kenya have little or no means to attend secondary school. Either orphaned or destitute these students are getting a chance to realize their full potential in a safe environment. In a region of Kenya with some of the highest AIDS infection rates in Africa these young women are at the highest risk of infection.
Global AIDS Education - a Slum Doctor program to educate people in the US about the extent and scope of the global AIDS crisis. Learn more about the program here.
